Description
Harmony Acoustic MandolinThis auction is for the Harmony archtop acoustic mandolin as pictured. There is no date or model number inside or on the body, but this instrument is similar to Harmony mandolins produced in the 1960s and early 1970s.
The mandolin has two f-holes, a spruce top with mahogany back and sides. The body is 2 ½” deep and is a typical “A” or pear-shaped mandolin. The truss rod is not adjustable.
The mandolin appears to be all original and is in very good condition with minimal fret wear, and hardly any scratches. The finish is nearly 100% and glossy with no checking or cracking. With a new set of medium gauge mandolin strings, the string action at the 12
th
fret is 2/32” straight across, tuned to full pitch. The neck appears straight, with 1/64
”
clearance under the strings at the 7
th
fret. The mandolin plays well and sounds great. The open-backed tuners are lubricated and turn easily.
Body binding is white, and the fretboard and 2-piece adjustable bridge are both rosewood. The nut is plastic, 1 3/16” wide. The pickguard is plastic – black-white-black. This instrument has a zero fret and dot position markers on the fretboard. Scale length is 13 7/8” with 17 ½ frets.
