FINAL PRICE DROP$$!!Here we have a very nice 1914 Gibson F-2 mandolin. The instrument is fully original except for the case.
This mandolin was brought in by Detroit, Michigan's Jazz legend Ron English. 'Google him'. Ron has played with a lot of BIG groups and was on many Motown hits and for over 60 years is still performing here in town. It was great to have him in the shop the other day as he dropped off some nice pieces for us to sell for him.
Anyway this 107 year old mandolin is in VERY good structurally sound condition. It has light wear thruout but no real issues and all the parts are there and in supurb condition. The ornate machine heads, pickguard, tail piece, bridge, and even the pat# pickguard bracket all in superb original condition.
I cannot say enough about my young luthier who replaced a 5" strip of binding that faces you when you play on the top of the fret board. If I did not tell you, you might not even know he did it! Amazing kid set the mandolin up with some fresh Martin strings and man wahat a sound! TONE! Yes. A ringer all the way. After all he IS a mandolin-guitar professional player and he actually gave it 6 weeks of step by step restoration. A labor of love and it came out fabulous. Well worth the wait.
So she plays great with a nice low perfect string action. The frets have some pitting in the first 5 or so frets but no playing or fret problems all up and down the neck.
The only real issues I suppose are the few small white paint spots on the finish I did not want to mess with and the tip of the headstock has gone missing as they usually do with this model mandolin.
