Description
For auction is a beautiful S.S. Stewart antique bowl back mandolin. Some people think these may have been made by the C.F. Martin Company. This model was probably made from 1890s -1920s.All the metal cover plates are polished and shiny, tailpiece cover may be silver, the mother of pearl inlays on the pickguard are all intact.
There are no visible cracks or damage that needs to be repaired on any of the wood which has minor scratches and scuffs.
The bridge seems to be installed in the proper position.
The fingerboard is in good condition but appears to have an upward bend near the bridge which may be causing the action to be high.
Filing the bottom of the bridge or replacing it with a very low bridge may help but it is difficult to play as it is.
New strings are needed and the knob on the top G string tuner is missing.
Such a beautiful instrument should not be just a wallhanger but some work will need to be done for it to be a proper player so it is being sold AS/IS for repair.
