Description
I have been honored to offer this historical instrument to the market by the family whose grandfather purchased it new in 1942, and you can see that the receipt - which transfers with the instrument, was signed by John D'Angelico in his shop on Kenmare St, N.Y. in 1942, at a cost of .00. Considering how few mandolins the great master made, to have one surface, in this condition, with this provenance, and having never been known to exist much less being offered to the market is a rare opportunity. The serial number stamped inside is 149. The back is carved from a single piece of curly maple, and the scroll headstock is a work of art unto itself. The pick-guard disintegrated over time and the pieces which are left are with the instrument. Included will be copies of photos of the mandolin being played in practice by the owner in his band. Please feel free to message me with any questions.
